John Snodgrass is a freelance Unitarian supply preacher who has appeared at numerous fellowships in Western New York. He has a Master's degree from Union Theological Seminary in NYC, and teaches religion courses at Canisius College. His books include Genesis and the Rise of Civilization, Chaos, and Natives Discover America (all available at amazon.com). He lives in Buffalo with his wife and their four children.
John speaks at our 11 AM Sunday Program once each month, usually the 2nd Sunday of the month. Starting on October 13, 2019 he will also lead an adult religious education discussion at 12:30 PM every Sunday he is with us . On this web page is a suggested reading list. Doing this "homework" in advance is not required. It will help us more easily absorb the ideas presented. The readings for the first three months are provided below: October 13, 12:30-1:30 - Introducing Islam - Religion is about answers - but what are the questions? What were some of the historical, social, and economic factors in Arabia that caused so many people to feel connected with the teachings of the Qur'an? December 8, 12:30-1:30 - Women in Islam: What does the Qur'an say about Adam and Eve, and about marriage? What is the Qur'anic teaching about how women should dress in public? Sunday January 12, 12:30-1:30pm - Myths of India - A brief introduction to the roots of the Sanatana Dharma, also known as "Hinduism." We'll look at how creation stories relate to the ancient history of India.
